Set Design & Art Direction for Last Exit on Bethnal
A short film directed by Lydia Garnett for Hannah Holland’s forthcoming EP, Last Exit on Bethnal is a poetic, surreal exploration of Dyke power and sexuality, told through vivid fantasy scenes from a queer underworld. Shot at the Cause nightclub in London, Ali and Lucy built and designed the sets within the concrete walls of the club.
In this film, the night belongs to the queer underworld—a space of escapism, freedom, and the reclamation of lost physical spaces. It envisions a world where Dykes hold power, where fantasies manifest, and where the boundaries between reality, dreams, and memories dissolve.
Hannah Holland’s Last Exit on Bethnal was born from a place of deep mourning, creating an emotive soundscape that fuels the film’s hypnotic and abstract visuals. Touching on themes of loss and escapism, this short film finds resolution through self-expression, community, and fantasy.
The film will premiere at ICA Gallery in April 2025. Buy tickets here.
