For one of her final university projects, Ali designed Kerbside Radio for Lambeth Council, transforming a former car park into a community-led space. Using a parabolic sound system (above), the radio station’s broadcasts promote community connection without disrupting the neighbourhood.
Born out of the necessity to reclaim our neighbourhoods and cultivate a space for music lovers and social butterflies alike, Kerbside Radio amplifies the sounds of the Lambeth community and beyond.
Using parabolic sound technology, the kerbside booth is able to play the live broadcast to people on the streets through a directional speaker mounted externally to the side of the station. The speaker, constructed from steel and welded into a dome shape, creates directional sound and amplifies the radio’s music to people standing within its radius on the kerbside.
